Karen Brown
Karen is not an acrobat, a gymnast or a contortionist. She is not vegan or double jointed – and doesn’t believe you need to be any of these things to enjoy and reap the benefits from yoga.
In November 2015 she completed her Pregnancy Yoga teacher training with the highly respected Nadia Narain and in April 2016 she had the privilege of studying Restorative Yoga with Judith Hanson Lasater and also attended workshops led by Kathryn Budig. She is very much looking forward to studying with Sarah Powers in October 2016 and David Swenson in November 2016.
Karen prides herself on teaching accessible non scary yoga for real people. Having herself suffered from tight hamstrings and hips for most of her life, she understands how challenging the practice can be for most. Drawing from her wealth of experience in Vinyasa Flow, Restorative and Pregnancy Yoga, she teaches intuitively with warmth and humour – and is passionate about the therapeutics benefits of yoga having witnessed them first hand for herself.
(Having spent 10 years in the City wearing offices clothes and heels, she is also enormously grateful for the opportunity to wear leisure wear all day, every day).
Namaste to that.
Karen first stepped onto a yoga mat in 1998 at the Glasgow Buddhist Centre and after much hilarity and bewilderment she shelved the idea for a few more years, dabbling on and off before taking it up again in 2008. She had come to a crossroads in her life and a friend suggested that she try a local hatha yoga class. For the first time in a long time she felt an enormous sent of lightness and calmness. She literally thought she was going to float away at the end of the class. All the stress and anxiety she had faced seemed to disappear and she felt like she could breathe again.
After a trip to India in 2013 she decided to pursue her love of yoga further and enrolled in her first vinyasa flow 200hr teacher training with Yoga London in 2014. She then went on to study with world renowned yoga teacher and hugely inspirational Claire Missingham gaining her second vinyasa flow 200hr teacher training certification in June 2015.
